Privacy policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Can I Park Here? collects, uses, and shares information when you use parking.avi.nyc and its parking search, map, chat, and route features. The service is operated by Avi Flombaum.
Information you provide or make available
- Location. If you choose to share it, your device location is used to find nearby parking rules and may be sent to our server to perform a search or to Mapbox to draw driving directions. You can instead choose a location on the map.
- Parking requests and questions. Text you enter into the planner or chat, along with the matching parking-sign records needed to answer it, is sent to OpenAI to generate an explanation. Chat history is not stored by this app after the request.
- Routes and feedback. When a route is generated, we save the request criteria, starting and search coordinates, selected parking candidates, route details, generation time, and a random browser identifier. If you submit optional parking feedback, we save your outcome, selected stop, and comment with that route.
- Technical information. Service providers and our hosting platform may process standard request information such as IP address, device/browser details, and timestamps for security, rate limiting, reliability, and analytics.
How we use information
We use information to evaluate posted parking rules, generate routes, answer questions, operate and secure the service, understand whether generated routes were useful, improve the product, and respond to support requests. We do not treat a generated route as proof that a parking space is available.
Cookies and local storage
The app uses a signed, HttpOnly browser cookie to associate generated routes and feedback with the same browser. That cookie is designed to last up to one year; clearing cookies or using another browser starts a new browser history. The app may also keep a recent location fix in this browser for up to five minutes. Our analytics and support tools may use their own cookies or similar technologies according to their policies.
Sharing and service providers
We share information with providers only as needed to operate requested features. These providers include Cloudflare for hosting, storage, security, and rate limiting; OpenAI for chat responses; Mapbox for driving directions; OpenFreeMap and its underlying map-data providers for map display; and analytics and support providers loaded on public pages. Provider handling is governed by the provider’s own terms and privacy policy.
Retention and security
Generated routes and optional outcomes are stored in the app’s route-history database. We do not currently promise a fixed deletion schedule for those records. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security. Do not submit sensitive personal information in a parking question or feedback comment.
Your choices and requests
You can decline location access, choose a map location instead, clear your browser cookies, and avoid using chat or submitting feedback. For questions or requests about personal information, contact parking@avi.nyc. We may need to verify a request before acting on it.
Children
The service is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy as the service changes. The effective date above indicates when this version took effect. Continued use after an update means the updated policy applies going forward.
